Winter Experiences

Hit the Slopes
There are great ski mountains just a short drive from Porches, so pack your gear and hit the slopes! We can provide you with conditions updates and suggest lift ticket options to make your ski trip as easy as possible. Then you can head back to warm up in our heated outdoor swimming pool and hot tub. Our favorite local mountains are Jiminy Peak and Berkshire East, and both offer rental equipment. Berkshire County is a fun and convenient ski destination so take full advantage while you’re here!

Snowshoe
Snowshoeing is a great way to explore the Berkshires and beat the crowds. Our neighbors at The Clark Art Institute offer free access to their 140-acre campus trail system, along with free snowshoes. They’re available on a first-come, first-served basis. Jiminy Peak offers snowshoe access too, both on their ski mountain and through a network of wooded trails, and rental equipment is available.

MASS MoCA
The Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, or MASS MoCA, is one of The Berkshires’ top attractions and a must-see when you visit North Adams! MASS MoCA is an industry leader, embracing all forms of art by both well-known and emerging artists. And with 250,000 sq ft of gallery space it’s one of the largest museums in the world! A single ticket gets you access for two days, and there’s plenty to see to keep you coming back.

Tubing
A 500 foot tubing track, groomed to perfection, with a Magic Carpet to bring you back to the top for another lap – there’s no better way to spend the day! Open winter weekends and holidays, tubing at Berkshire East is a great alternative to skiing and snowboarding, and 100% snowmaking ensures great coverage in all conditions. Tubers must be at least 42 inches tall.

Cross-Country Skiing
With more than 3,000 acres of rolling terrain, Notchview offers an idyllic escape for winter sport enthusiasts, especially cross-country skiers looking for a brisk outing. Seventeen kilometers of trails are groomed and track-set for classical cross-country skiing, with eight additional kilometers groomed for skate skiing. You can also go off track and explore the backcountry, or snowshoe alongside the ski trails.
