Our14- by 38-ft heated outdoor pool, surrounded by a radiant-heated stone patio, is ready for your year-round enjoyment, 24 hours a day! Do your laps in the morning to gear up for an action-packed day. Sunbathe in the afternoon then cool off with a quick dip. Get the kids to burn off much-needed energy so they can sit through a theater performance. Float around and gaze and the stars.
A sauna, shower, and changing rooms are located in adjacent Building Seven.
While we hope that you get outside and enjoy the many recreational opportunities the Berkshire hills region has to offer, we do have a fitness center so you can continue your work-outs while you’re staying with us. A separate building houses our 425 square-foot Fitness Center with large, plate glass windows overlooking MASS MoCA. This well-equipped center features three ellipticals, two treadmills, one stretch trainer, one stairmaster, one recumbent bike, one universal machine, and free weights. The Fitness Center is open 24 hours a day.
When it came time to bushwhack a path to the top of the hill behind Porches and create a garden, we thought that Mother Nature should help do the work. In 2006, MASS MoCA and Porches commissioned Project Native to build a native woodland plant garden in the woods behind the inn and around the pool area. Project Native, a non-profit organization located in Housatonic, planted over 11,000 plants that are indigenous to the Berkshires along the paths and in the woods on the hill behind the property. Look for red trillium in springtime, a sure harbinger of warmer days!
In the mood to sit around a bonfire and trade camp stories? Our bonfire pit is the perfect place to do it – we’ll even get it started for you! We keep a huge pile of wood and kindling ready to spark up and keep you toasty. Gather round with your friends or colleagues and enjoy a tradition that we country folk hold dear.
The city of North Adams was kind enough to site a beautiful new playground right next to Porches—you don’t even have to cross the street! There are all kinds of playground equipment, appropriate for a range of ages, including adults who wish to test their jungle gym ability! Between Porches and the playground, you’ll find a greenspace just about the right size for a game of dodgeball!
