A Purple Anniversary

Stevie Nicks wasn’t the only one who worked the lace-and-ruffles look.  She may have embodied the ethereal-songstress-earth-mama type prevalent during the seventies, but the next decade brought us a vision of princely proportions, none other than His Purpleness himself… So, all you Prince fans, it’s time to don some lace and ruffles and head to MASS MoCA for a full-on sing-a-long to Purple Rain! Everything in the eighties was big and this film is no exception – big hair, big clothes, big music – in fact, this soundtrack won an Oscar for best Original Score, three Grammy awards and ranked number one on the charts for half a year. The album turned 25 on June 25th and deserves to be celebrated… On Thursday August 13, at 8:30 PM, MASS MoCA invites you to “come get your Prince on — we’ll have lyric subtitles, but you know the words already.” How can you resist?
