The other day, I took a drive up the hill to the Eclipse Mill to see the new work at River Hill Pottery. The Eclipse Mill is a live/work space for artists in a former textile mill, where over twenty artists reside and make art. River Hill Pottery owners Phil and Gail Sellers founded their studio in 1978, beginning with hand-thrown pieces and eventually designing works that are hand-woven. Their beautifully crafted “baskets” can actually be used as baking dishes and, I’m told, work quite well! The Woodland collection is particularly beautiful. River Hill Pottery also offers smaller, everyday items – coffee mugs, soup mugs, lovely little flower vases that are the best $20 gift around. The next time you’re at Porches, consider visiting this studio and others in our neighborhood – just ask our staff and they’ll point you in the right direction!
