Combo Platter

Chautauqua! happens at MASS MoCA on Saturday, April 9th. Consider this: a young, rabble-rousing theater group distills an historic intellectual gathering into a a sly exploration of the relationship between High Culture and the Mass Mind. These folks are eccentric and proud of it! The performance is a combination of lecture, debate, scientific demonstration and tales of explorers with more traditional forms of entertainment dance, dramatic recital, feats of strength, and joke telling. Sounds outrageous? It is. Don’t miss it – check out our Chautauqua special, complete with a chance to get $25 off your reservation!

Get-a-Waypoint!

If you haven’t checked out RuralIntelligence.com, please do. I know I’m cutting-and-pasting here, but I couldn’t say it better myself: RuralIntelligence.com was created for folks “who routinely do business and seek recreation and entertainment in four counties—Berkshire, Columbia, northern Dutchess and northern Litchfield—that are spread over three states,” an area  ”not well-served by mainstream media.”  The talent behind this site, Marilyn Bethany and Dan Shaw, “have taken their combined forty years of experience in print journalism [New York Times & New York magazine! - my exclamation point] with the technology of the day to create this Rural Intelligence, which treats this uniquely sophisticated region as one big neighborhood.” It is an incredibly insightful and sophisticated resource, totally lacking in snobbery! We’re honored that Dan wrote about our Get-a-Waypoint package! Follow this link to read what he said – and make your reservation soon, as there is limited space for this package!

The Secret is Out!

National Geographic Traveler is the gold-standard for measuring tourism destinations and what makes them special. We were thrilled last year when this publication selected both Porches and sister property The Red Lion Inn for inclusion on their first annual STAY LIST. Now, we’re equally excited about the Berkshires being recognized in the magazine’s latest assessment of destinations’ authenticity and stewardship. The Berkshires ranked with a pretty high score and was noted for “‘the right balance’ of picturesque towns, arts offerings, and well-protected natural beauty.” The secret is out!
